Ask our care team
01What is fetal medicine?

Fetal medicine is a specialist area focused on maternal health, fetal development, prenatal screening, diagnosis, monitoring and coordinated planning when a pregnancy needs additional expertise.

02Does every pregnancy require a fetal medicine specialist?

No. Many pregnancies are managed through routine obstetric care. Referral may be recommended because of maternal history, screening results, ultrasound findings, fetal growth concerns or other clinical factors.

03Is an ultrasound able to identify every fetal condition?

No. Ultrasound is valuable but cannot detect every genetic, developmental or medical condition. Accuracy depends on gestation, fetal position, the condition and technical factors.

04Are amniocentesis and CVS compulsory after an abnormal screen?

No. They are diagnostic options, not automatic requirements. A specialist should explain the screening result, alternatives, possible risks and what different results may mean.

05How is NICU planning helpful before delivery?

When newborn support may be required, antenatal planning helps families understand possible care and allows obstetric, fetal medicine and neonatal teams to coordinate the delivery location and immediate newborn needs.
